Annual Church Picnic

Annual Picnic Brings Down Home ‘Yee Haw’ to Church Green

Church members and friends are encouraged to get in touch with their inner cowboy or cowgirl as our congregation gathers for an outdoor worship under a big-top tent and an afternoon of picnic fun, on Sunday, July 28.  In keeping with the “Yee Haw” theme of this year’s Vacation Bible School (VBS) to be held the previous week, July 22-25, our morning worship, led by Pastors Geoffrey
Drutchas and Cheryl Schalm, will reflect on life “on the range.” Our young people, who participated, in VBS will be performing music they learned and sharing insights they gained.
The afternoon picnic that follows will offer western-style activities for all ages, including a petting and pony rides; kiddie games; horseshoes; Wild West Bingo; an “Old Country Store” with vendors galore; Country-Western Karaoke; Western Boot Lassoing; and
Bucket Brigade Balloon Toss. Those who want to enjoy even more active fun are invited to join a volleyball game between “Ranchers” and “Farmers.”
A Church Wagon Buffet will be hosted by the Men’s Fellowship with a menu that will include Sloppy Joes, ‘Prairie chicken,’ grilled hot dogs, corn-on-the-cob, pasta salad, baked beans, fresh-cut vegetables, and fresh fruit salad. A free will offering will be
taken. The Dorcas Society will host an OK Corral Ice Cream Social a little later in the afternoon. The day will culminate with a special Vendor Drawing, plus separate drawings and announcement of winners for the 50/50 and Gift Basket raffles.
As in past years, a fellowship period will be held in the West Room on Picnic Sunday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. worship service. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.
Bingo will start at 1:45 p.m. and the Ice Cream Social at 2 p.m. The picnic usually finishes after 3 p.m.
