PLEASE JOIN THE ST. PAUL CONGREGATION for light refreshments in our Fellowship Hall immediately following our worship service, hosted by our Choir.

HOLY COMMUNION IS OFFERED THIS MORNING.  Our congregation welcomes to the Lord’s Supper all adult, baptized Christians, regardless of Christian affiliation.  What’s simply asked is that during Holy Communion all participants maintain a reverent silence that fits the dignity of the sacrament.

LOVE AND DEEPEST SYMPATHY to family & friends on the loss of Robert “Bob” Harry who passed away December 30, 2019 at the age of 81 years.  Visitation is today from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Querfeld Funeral Home, 1200 Oakwood Blvd., Dearborn.  Funeral service is Monday, January 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ.  He will lie in state at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Geoffrey Drutchas to officiate.

YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED various St. Paul members wearing a Yellow and Red Armband during our Sunday Worship Services and at special events.  They are part of our Emergency Response Team and serve a very important function.  It is their responsibility to get you to a safe location during any emergency.  Please make sure that you follow the directions of these trained individuals. Your safety is our top priority.

2020 giving envelopes and calendars are available for pick up in the Narthex (rear) of the church.  Please ask an usher if you would like assistance locating your box.  If you do not find your box, please contact Financial Secretary, Annette Thie.
The Annual Meeting 
of our congregation is Sunday, January 12, 2020 immediately following our morning worship service.  Your attendance is very important.  End-of-year reports will be shared. A presentation of the financial report for 2019 will be followed by a proposal for a 2020 unified budget. Also, a full slate of candidates for the Church Council will be presented by the trustees for a vote of the congregation.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP TO HOST  “Winter Family Fun Night” Friday, January 10, 2020.  This free and fun family event is 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and is open to all church members, family and friends.  In addition to music, an indoor moonwalk, crafts, games, cookie decorating, hat decorating, and s’more making, a coffee café featuring minimally priced flavored coffees, hot chocolate, pizza, and nachos will be set-up in the West Room.  This night is packed with so much fun that you will not want to miss it. We hope to see you there!

SOUPER BOWL VII is Sunday, January 19, 2020.  A donation of $7.00 buys you a spoon, a tray (holds 6 bowls of soup) and allows you to taste a variety of amazing soups prepared by local businesses as well as our own congregation. Advanced tickets can be purchased on Sunday mornings during Coffee Hour at the KIOSK table or by contacting the Church office (313) 291-1221. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in our Fellowship Hall.  All profits to support our facility.  If you have a secret family recipe and would like to participate in Souper Bowl VII, please contact Jim Poet or Dan Case.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for our Annual Scrapbook Crop Saturday, February 8,  2020, 9:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. The cost is $40. Cost includes cropping space, three meals, as well as snacks and beverages all day. There will be vendors, make and takes, demos, and raffles. If you do not care to scrapbook, you can shop with our vendors. If you are a vendor, or know of a vendor that might be interested, please let me know. We need raffle and door prizes, as well as people to help that day. This is a big fundraiser for Health and Christian Education Ministries. Please contact Debbie Case to volunteer or for more information.  

TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE for St. Paul’s Thirteenth Annual Wild Game Dinner.  The event is Thursday, February 13, 2020.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres at 6:00 p.m. and a sit-down dinner at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at the KIOSK table during Coffee Hour, by calling the Church office at 313-291-1221 or by contacting James Poet, Gary Staffeld, John Smith, Candace Poet or Dan Case.  This is a SELL-OUT event every year.  The St. Paul Building and Grounds Ministry is accepting donations of new items that can be used as prizes for the Wild Game Dinner raffles.

MUSIC DIRECTOR, TRACY HOFFMAN, IS AWAY celebrating with his mother on her 90th birthday.  

HEALTH MINISTRIES - Exercise Classes – Resume Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. on January 8.  There is no charge for these sessions.  Meditation classes – Beginning Wednesday, January 15 we will have three sessions from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.  We will focus on learning and practicing breathing and meditation. Kathy Williams will lead the sessions.  Health/ Medical supplies – If you have or need medical supplies, such as walkers, wheelchairs, please contact parish nurse, Kathy Williams.  Blood Drive –January 28, 2020, 1:00 – 6:45 p.m.  It’s important to sign up early.  There needs to be 59 days between donations. Please make an appointment by contacting Parish Nurse, Kathy Williams, completing a Make-a-Wish card and placing it in an offering plate, or you can make appointments for/at your own convenience through the Internet. Visit www.redcrossblood.org click on the blue box on the left side of the page that says, 'Enter a Sponsor Code', under 'Find a blood drive near you.' Type in StPaulTaylor (no spaces). You will then be directed to the next page listing our blood drive. Click on the last column to sign up. You will need to register & obtain a password. IDs & passwords are case sensitive.  You can also download to your phone or print out a Rapid Pass the day of  prior to coming to the drive. You can read the educational materials & complete the health history online to save some time at the blood drive. If you have questions about eligibility, you can look at eligibility requirements on www.redcrossblood.org or contact the Red Cross blood donation center (866-236-3276).

RED HOT PURPLE ANGELS Thursday, January 23, 2020 is our planning meeting.  Join us with any suggestions for events, outings, etc. for the upcoming year. If you’re not attending the meeting, please share your suggestions/ideas with Kathy or Sally Sigman beforehand. If anyone is willing to volunteer to take Kathy’s place regarding the planning schedule, please contact her.

  THE 2020 ALTAR FLOWER CHART is now up in the Narthex.  Altar flowers are a very special way to honor or memorialize that special someone in your life or even a special occasion (anniversary, birthday, graduation, etc.) The cost for two altar flower vases is $30.  A single altar vase is $15.  Please contact the Deacon after the service for assistance inting your flowers to take with you.  Please check the chart for availability of Sundays or other occasions.  Use the white envelops found in the pew racks to request altar flowers.  You may also contact the church office (313.219.1221.)
