O, Loving God, as we gather together in worship this morning, we praise You and we give thanks to You; for this world which You have made, for your bountiful provisions for our needs, for all the blessings of this present life, and for the hope of a better life to come.  Let the memory of your past goodness fill our hearts with joy and thankfulness in the present, and for hope for the future.  Fill our lives with the truth of your Word and the courage of your apostles that, having caught the vision of your Kingdom, we may proclaim it with power and a glad heart to the salvation of many souls and to the glory of Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray.  Amen.

MORNING TIDE

LOVE AND DEEEPEST SYMPATHY to Gloria Lakatos, family and friends on the loss of Donna “Tudy” Marie Pletz who passed away August 18, 2019 at the age of 84 years.  Funeral was August 23, 2019.  Arrangements by Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS SOUGHT.  Our children will explore God’s word and how to apply these lessons to their daily living. Pre-schoolers through fifth grade will meet in the upstairs’ Westroom.  Older youth meet with Pastor Schalm in the Senior High classroom (pending worship service responsibilities). Please consider visiting the Welcome Center on Sunday to select a date to share your faith with the children of St. Paul.  All curriculum, materials and snacks are provided. Only one opportunity remain!  Don’t miss out!  SEPTEMBER 1 Showdown on Mount Carmel   Nothing is impossible with God.

THE SEWING GUILD Sew ‘n Sews is looking for anyone who knits or crochets and would like to make baby blankets, lap blankets, kid size blankets, baby or kid's cancer hats.  All yarn will be supplied. Please contact Sharon Leonard or the church office if you are able to help us utilize a large donation of yarn. It would be great if you could attend our meetings, but not necessary. We meet in the West Room the third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. Bring a sandwich, dessert and coffee are provided. Join us for 'food for thought'.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES for eighth and ninth graders will be starting up Wednesday, September 11, 7 p.m. An orientation will be held that night for both parents and confirmands outlining classes and activities for the coming year. A day outing to Put-in-Bay Island via Lake Erie ferry from Catawba Point is planned for Saturday, September 21. Parents and confirmands are encouraged to mark their calendars now for both September 11 and 21.

Confirmation at St. Paul Church is a two-year study program in which young people firm up their own knowledge and understanding of their Christian faith. Classes meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, 7-8 p.m., and continue from September to April. Second year students will be confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 5. CALLING ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS AND RECENT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES Christian Education is in need of pictures and addresses of all St. Paul UCC college students and High School graduates enrolled in continuing education programs (trade school, skill programs, apprenticeships, etc.). Please forward addresses and pictures to Pastor Schalm or to the church office. Pictures will be displayed on the “College Connection” board and students will be added to the quarterly “College Connection” mailing list. 

THE ‘2019-2020’ Youth Fellowship Kick-Off is Sunday, September 8.  We will meet in the Fellowship Hall following the worship service for lunch.  Following lunch, we will head to Flat Rock for some kayaking. PLEASE sign the sheet on the youth board to confirm your participation by September 1st.   Approx. cost $15.00.  The “2019” Fall Youth Retreat is November 2 -3 at the Michindoh Resort and Conference Center.  “Let’s Get Serious” is this year’s theme. Mark your planners and sign up now!  Watch your mail for more information.

THE ST. PAUL CHANCEL CHOIR is resuming their weekly rehearsals beginning Wednesday, August 28.  Rehearsal time is 7:00 p.m. and is led by Music Director, Tracy Hoffman.  New voices are always welcome.

USHERS NEEDED Anyone interested in volunteering can visit our new Usher Sign-up Board located in the Narthex (back) of the Church. Being an usher is easy and experience is not necessary. Our Deacons will be glad to answer any questions and walk you through training prior to the service.  Ushers are asked to be at Church thirty minutes prior to the service.  CHURCH COUNCIL is also in urgent need of a Secretary.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact President, Pam Lange, 1st Vice President, Cheryl Kincaid or Pastor Geoff Drutchas.
