MORNING TIDE

PLEASE JOIN THE ST. PAUL CONGREGATION beginning at 9:30 a.m. for Coffee Hour before our morning worship service in the Jerusalem Café (West Room), hosted by our Men’s Fellowship Ministry.

PASTORAL NEEDS during August will be in the caring hands of Pastor Cheryl Schalm and Parish Nurse, Kathy Williams.  Please alert the church office (313-291-1221) to any pastoral needs that arises for you or family members.  Pastor Schalm and Kathy Williams can provide any necessary pastoral support. Pastor Cheryl Schalm will be leading worship on August 4 and 11.  Tentatively, Reverend John Martin will be leading the worship service on August 18. On the last Sunday of the month, August 25, Reverend Ralph Brown will be preaching.  Pastor Geoff Drutchas will be on vacation during August.

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS SOUGHT.  Our children will explore God’s word and how to apply these lessons to their daily living. In order for the summer program to be successful adults are needed to lead the weekly lessons.  Pre-schoolers through fifth grade will meet in the upstairs’ Westroom.  Older youth meet with Pastor Schalm in the Senior High classroom (pending worship service responsibilities). Please consider visiting the Welcome Center on Sunday to select a date to share your faith with the children of St. Paul.  All curriculum, materials and snacks are provided.

USHERS NEEDED Anyone interested in volunteering can visit our new Usher Sign-up Board located in the Narthex (back) of the Church. Being an usher is easy and experience is not necessary. Our Deacons will be glad to answer any questions and walk you through training prior to the service.  Ushers are asked to be at Church thirty minutes prior to the service.  CHURCH COUNCIL is also in urgent need of a Secretary.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact President, Pam Lange, 1st Vice President, Cheryl Kincaid or Pastor Drutchas.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES for eighth and ninth graders will be starting up Wednesday, September 11, 7 p.m. An orientation will be held that night for both parents and confirmands outlining classes and activities for the coming year. A day outing to Put-in-Bay Island via Lake Erie ferry from Catawba Point is planned for Saturday, September 21. Parents and confirmands are encouraged to mark their calendars now for both September 11 and 21.

Confirmation at St. Paul Church is a two-year study program in which young people firm up their own knowledge and understanding of their Christian faith. Classes meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, 7-8 p.m., and continue from September to April. Second year students will be confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 5. CALLING ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS AND RECENT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES Christian Education is in need of pictures and addresses of all St. Paul UCC college students and High School graduates enrolled in continuing education programs (trade school, skill programs, apprenticeships, etc.). Please forward addresses and pictures to Pastor Schalm or to the church office. Pictures will be displayed on the “College Connection” board and students will be added to the quarterly “College Connection” mailing list.

THE 2019 ALTAR FLOWER CHART Altar flowers are a very special way to honor or memorialize that special someone in your life or even a special occasion (anniversary, birthday, graduation, etc.).  The cost for altar flowers is $30.00 (2 vases) or you may purchase a side vase for just $15.00.  Please contact the Deacon after the service for assistance in getting your altar flowers or side vase.  Please check the flower chart for availability of Sundays or other occasions. Please use envelopes found in the pew racks to request altar flowers.  You may also contact the church office at 313-291-1221.

HEALTH MINISTRIES - Exercise Classes – We will resume in August. A donation of $3-$5 is accepted, but not necessary.  Matter of Balance classes will resume on August 5 for eight – ten weeks.  Balance classes are sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.  Meditation classes - Will resume in the Fall. Individual sessions are available. Please contact Kathy Williams. Health/ Medical supplies – If you have or need medical supplies, such as walkers, wheelchairs, please contact parish nurse, Kathy Williams.

RED HOT PURPLE ANGELS Saturday, August 24 we’re visiting Hitsville, USA, the Motown Museum in Detroit for a tour.  Carpooling available from St. Paul at 10:00 a.m.  Following our tour, we will enjoy lunch together.  The cost is $10 for seniors.  Please sign up on the RHPA Bulletin board in Fellowship Hall.  $10 is due to Kathy Williams.  Tickets will be ordered July 12.

SAVE THE DATE  - The annual St. Paul Women's Retreat is October 5 and 6, 2019. The retreat provides an opportunity for women of faith to share time together and reflect on how we can act on God's call to kindness amid everyday life. There is also some free time so that you can enjoy the beautiful grounds and facilities at Michindoh located in Hillsdale. If you would like more information, please contact Michele McNeely or Marjie Barnard.

SUMMER WORSHIP is at 9:30 a.m.  Summer Sunday School for youth and children is also offered at 9:30 a.m.  We will be worshipping in comfort thanks to our air conditioned sanctuary. Summer Sunday School leaders are needed.  Please contact Pastor Cheryl Schalm to volunteer.  There is a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center upstairs.  Everything is provided.

YOUNG ADULT WORSHIP WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY CONTINUES
The group meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at Pastor Schalm’s. All post-High School young adults are welcome and encouraged to join. We are working our way through the Gospels. Plan to join the group for study, discussion, laughter, food and fellowship. The group will not be meeting in July but will resume in August.

BIBLE STUDY MEETS Tuesday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. for the last time this summer.  They will gather again Tuesday, September 3 at 10:30 a.m.  Everyone is welcome to join our informal discussion group. 

ANNUAL ALL CHURCH KITCHEN CLEAN-UP The St. Paul Building and Grounds Ministry will be hosting its Annual Kitchen Clean-up on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. All cleaning supplies and special equipment will be provided.  Any time you can share will be greatly appreciated.
