Mind, Body, and Spirit Programs

Meditation -  Tense?  Stressed?  De-stress with meditation.  Half-hour drop-in sessions are held on Thursdays at 3:45 p.m. in the St. Paul Church parlor.  All sessions are led by Parish Nurse Kathy Williams.  Contact the church office (313-291-1221) for more information about the next meditation session.  Come, relax!  Everyone is welcome.

Enhance Your Fitness - Enhanced Fitness classes at St. Paul Church meet in the West Room and offer a great time for non-competitive fun, fellowship, and health.  Exercises used in class combine three components of fitness: strength training, flexibility, and cardiovascular conditioning.  To ensure safety, each exercise was developed by experts in the physical therapy field, in conjunction with agencies serving older adults.  The result is a fun and lively program that works!  Instruction is provided by Mary Reed, Southgate YMCA Fitness Director, who provides individual attention and demonstrates variations and modifications to the general fitness program so that you can find a level that is perfect for you.  All exercises may be performed seated or standing.  12-16 church members and friends usually participate in each session.  Classes are held over a seven week period, meeting on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 2:30-3:30 p.m.   The total enrollment cost for the seven week series in $42.  But you can begin at any time and pricing will be adjusted or pro-rated accordingly.  For more information about enrollment, contact Parish Nurse Kathy Williams (313-291-1221).

Yoga - Yoga has helped many men and women improve their personal health and well-being.  Yoga is a gentle but effective way to promote flexibility, balance, strength, and posture.  It can tone the body, foster more energy, and improve stamina, while alleviating stress and decreasing chronic pain.  Yoga classes at St. Paul Church are led by Connie Fedel of the Taylor Recreation Center, who is creator of "Yoga Well Being," an instructional DVD.  Yoga classes are held in the St. Paul Fellowship Hall in the fall, winter, and spring.  For more information contact Parish Nurse Kathy Williams (313-291-1221).

CPR/ First Aid  - You can help save a life!  CPR and First Aid Training are offered annually during winter months at St. Paul United Church in the West Room.  Usually scheduled for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, The CPR with AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) training class lasts four hours.  The combined CPR/ First Aid class extends 8-10 hours.  Both classes allow participants to be card- certified with the American Heart Association.  Contact Parish Nurse Kathy Williams for more information (313-291-1221).
